Good Morning Choir!!
I need to say a few things…
This choir has been running for 10, going on 11 years. We modeled this group after the group in Sonoma which DOES NOT use sheet music. The director of the Sonoma choir for whatever reason, chose NOT to do it that way…and it works for them.
That being said, we are NOT the Sonoma choir. We have tried it BOTH ways, using music and not using music. I am ALWAYS torn as to which way is the best. I know for a fact that it works the best if I have music.
Over the years I have had many many members ask for music AND I have had people tell me that they HATE using it. I personally feel that everyone should at least be able to FOLLOW the music. It makes learning SO MUCH EASIER if you have a visual…whether it is JUST lyrics or a score/part.
Also, I have had MANY people ask me to teach them how to READ/FOLLOW the music!
SO, I printed out scores for SPACE ODDITY to use as a teaching moment last night AND, as an example of how it works…or can work.
I got the sense that many of you were not happy and felt like all of the sudden I’m switching us to sheet music all the time. I’m NOT. I said at the beginning of the evening that you DO NOT HAVE TO USE MUSIC. I’m having Nate make me music so that I can better help you and if you want it, you can print to it. It will be available on the site.
I did however, and I will say it again, print it out to use as a TEACHING TOOL.
Also, I am so very sorry for the confusion about what’s on the site and whats not.
WE WILL FIX THIS.
PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH ME. It has been hard to connect with Nate and my life has not exactly been “Normal” this past month. I’m leaving again on Friday…
Ok I hope that this gives an explanation of where things are.
