A WORD FROM OUR FOUNDER
Happy July, everyone! I hope you are all staying cool and enjoying our very warm summer so far!
I want to start by saying that our June 13th Student Showcase at Gazebo Gardens was AWESOME! Yes it was HOT, but that did not stop everyone that participated from doing an AMAZING job! I smiled all week long because of what a beautiful day it was. Thank you Brian Guerrero-Bucheim

From the heart, thank you! Thank you parents and students for being there. Thank you for continuing with your lessons through a pandemic. Thank you for supporting our school. Thank you to all our hard working staff, because without them that event would not have happened. Thank you to all the others that volunteered to help before and after, and most of all… THANK YOU TEACHERS! Without you, we could not continue to bring beauty and music into this world.
We will be announcing the next Showcase date soon, and are excited about some other upcoming opportunities for “live performance practice”, so keep reading this newsletter!
That brings me to our Summer Camp Program in July… I know that many of you picked up a flyer on Sunday at the information station. Week one is ART CAMP, and week two is MUSIC CAMP. The two camps CAN be taken separately, but we have designed them to work together, and if your child signs up for both camps, you will get a discount! So many of you have kids that are in the perfect age (8-16). Depending on who is interested, we may open it up to 7 year olds!
Sign up today…it’s filling up fast! The deadline is Friday July 9th.

SHOWCASE PHOTOS
Everyone did a fabulous job at the June 13th showcase, and all of us here at Fresno Music Academy & Arts is very proud. You are all progressing so well. It was especially fun seeing students that we haven’t seen in 15 months. Wow, you can really notice the passing of time when you see kids after a long absence, they grow fast.
We had our own John Alden photographing each and everyone of you and you can go see the photos taken online. They are also available for sale. Be sure to look at prior galleries, find your photos from years before.

Open Mic Night
That’s right, we’re starting an OPEN MIC NIGHT at FMAA! This event is FREE and open to ANY FMAA student, but space is limited!
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn to power through stage fright before a showcase, or to simply gain experience! We hope to see you there…

FMAA’s Annual Songwriting Competition
Start thinking up a melody, because our annual songwriting competition is about to begin! *Open to central valley.
This year’s theme is Friendship, and the deadline is August 25th, so you have all the time you need to get a submission ready!
We encourage current students to participate, especially! This is a wonderful opportunity to make a name for yourself, and show off those talents! You may ask your current teacher for inspiration, if you wish.

Leslie Martin: The Road to Fame
isn’t a Cakewalk
Our July 1st Art Hop event was wonderful! Spellbound by Allison Waller’s voice and accompaniment, we snacked, drank, and conversed over Leslie’s vibrant and thought-provoking work!
Leslie Martin was compelled to begin painting with the Covid-19 shutdown in March of 2020, a way of coping with the frightening uncertainty of what was to come as well as extra time at home.
A talented performer, she teaches theatre/acting for Fresno City College and Fresno State.

At Fresno Music Academy & Arts, we use something called The Music Ladder System. This is a reward program based on student achievement!
Every three months, students are given the opportunity to earn colored bracelets, certificates, and at certain levels, trophies! It’s a great way for younger students to feel accomplished and recognized for their efforts.
Hard work should be rewarded! We’re always looking for new ways to inspire young musicians!

GENERAL INFORMATION:
These camps are going to be a blast! Art and Music go hand in hand- watch your little ones learn the process of making a set and props for their very own Friendship medley showcase!
– Ages 8-16
– We have two modules: Art, and Music!
– They are both one week long. You can take both, or just one!
– They’re scheduled 9AM-2PM

PAYMENT INFORMATION:
– Starting cost is $350 per camp, or you can enroll in both for $600!
– There is a $50 (non-refundable) deposit.
– There is a pre-pay option, and we also are capable of setting up a payment plan (three payments).
– We are working on obtaining scholarships for students who are unable to pay the full amount.
– We are looking for parent volunteers to manage snack time, etc. This is to supplement the tuition cost for students who cannot afford the full amount.

🎸QUICK TIPS 🎸
Simply playing your instrument is necessarily not the same as practicing.
When a professional musician practices their instrument, they go through scales (or rudiments) repeatedly, working hard to improve their technique. Set yourself a dedicated practice or warm-up regime for each day to burn those scales into your memory.
